Most facial recognition systems require photos to be a frontal view of the face in order to make a match. Rotated, or "off pose" facial photos are by and large the norm coming from security cameras, random snapshots, or telephoto surveillance photos. This type of uncontrolled facial imagery makes the use of face recognition systems impractical because of the poor matching results or no results that occur.
Animetrics ID-Ready™ provides a quick and easy mechanism to accomplish face rotation/pose-correction, namely rotating and normalizing 2D faces, making them ID-Ready for just about any facial recognition system.
To get started, sign up for a free account. To activate your account, you will be asked to verify your email address by clicking on a link sent to you. Once logged in you can access the ID-Ready system at any time by clicking on the ID-Ready link at the top left of your window.
To begin a face rotation operation, upload any jpg or png photo from the main ID-Ready page. Each image upload will be marked as part of your free, pay-as-you-go, or monthly quota. You can check your quota on the top right of the screen, or by clicking on your first name to access your profile page.
When it recieves an uploaded a photo, the ID-Ready system will apply landmark detection and take its best guess at a face in that photo by positioning a red crosshair over each eye and the nose tip. You may fine tune the accuracy of the facial feature positions on the face by positioning the three red cross hairs over both eyes and nose tip. This may also be useful if there is more than one person in the photo, so that you can indicate the desired face.
Once you’ve chosen a face and adjusted the cross hairs if needed, click on the 2D to 3D button and it will generate another photo of that face that is pose corrected to zero for the pitch, yaw, and roll along the x, y, and z axis. By default ID-Ready will eliminate occlusions in the photo by using a symmetric blending algorithm.
The Show Occlusions button allows you to toggle between this mirror image view and the actual view of the rotated face which may include blank parts-- the non visible parts of the angulated face from the original 2D photo.
Both the symmetric and occlusions views may be downloaded as jpg images for future use in any facial recognition system by clicking the Download Result button. Simply right click and "Save image as..." to save to your hard drive.
One "upload" operation on your quota allows you to download both types of images for each face in one uploaded image. Clicking download will open a new window containing the 3D pose-corrected face.
All network communication with id.ready.animetrics.com is encrypted over a secure SSL channel. Images uploaded are deleted from our servers within 2 hours; we keep them for this short period of time to ensure that they are available for 2D to 3D operations. All downloadable 3D generated face files are given private obfuscated names and are in no way indexable by search engines. Similarly, all 3D generated face files are deleted from our servers within 2 hours.
