It is estimated that as many as 25 percent of complaint cases contain facial images of the suspects, which are received from a variety of sources that include social networks, cell phones, and other media. Improved system architecture, increased accuracy of commercial algorithms, and inter-agency standardization of the mug-shot capture process have greatly contributed to the increased use of face recognition applications.
